Thermals have to go

even them getting limited to 70 meters its still an insane range hiding in bushes is impossible, ambushing as a sniper is close to impossible as u get a single shot off and boom they turn their thermals on and see u instantly

I have never and will never play Combine. I am a rebel main through and through. But I think it would be better to find an alternative fix than remove thermals. They are a staple of what sets us apart from other impulse servers, and the imbalance is a necessity for the atmosphere

I understand the frustration and have found myself rage quitting because of thermals, so I'll offer some alternatives to removing them outright:
* limit the range even more
* limit the number of snipers to 1 at a time
* add a dynamic OTA player count limit dependent on city status and have it favor rebels. Its crazy when theres like 10 OTA employed with zero rebels in the outlands
* buff rebels even more or give them more options for sabotage/guerilla warfare
* nerf OTA sniper sensitivity, and replace the dot with an actual line akin to the actual HL2 sniper so that people can have a real chance to dodge incoming fire

while its understandable i feel like its better to put that in a different thread

I feel like thermals need to come with a disadvantage of some sort.
Perhaps a limited amount of use along with power being diverted from your suit, making you more vulnerable during use and for a time afterwards as it recovers.
Something in place so that thermals become an important tactical choice, rather than something that players use whenever they feel like.

Alternative to removing thermals entirely, I have suggested to other hicom members that we make them role specific. My idea includes replacing thermals for every unit to night vision(because fuck no we aint using no regular flashlight) and only RANGER units would be equipped with the ability to deploy thermal binoculars(still limited at 70m if necessary). As such, we would have more variety amongst STs; more planning in regards to squad composition and more tactics in regards to individual squad leaders organising squads.

yea i agree to that i just think cca shoud't have thermals im fine it staying on ota

+ Support. Thermals as a whole are a flat counter to the rebels main style of play (stealth, and ambushes) that provide no counterplay whatsoever. There's no skill expression whatsoever, and i dont think its healthy for CVR gameplay. It sucks from afar cause a ranger can clock you instantly and kill you. And it sucks up close because the pointman can see where you're hiding instantly and kill you.

Im fine with being killed, but i want the OTA to have to put in the work to bloody find me first, and the smoke/thermal combo is just genuinely unfun to play against. Id rather replace thermals with gadgets that ACTUALLY REQUIRE SKILL TO USE. Like more grenade variants, or manhacks, or deployable shields, or ANYTHING ELSE, really.

And the argument of just limiting thermals to a specific role has been brought up before, but im still strictly against that idea, because if the OTA are using any coordination at ALL, then the thermal unit seeing you is still effectively the same as them all seeing you. And if they're not, then... That's their leaderships problem, not mine.

Like, maybe their SP is effectively shut off for the duration and shortly after use? Either way, i just want something that isint just a free advantage, because thermals is a PRETTY dang big advantage to have for free.

Then as aip said only reasonable units like RANGER would be the only one that got it. And probably Cremator too

Then kill the unit with Thermal vision.
So you want us to kill the thermal unit of a notoriously tanky faction before they can call you out? That's a unrealistic expectation, especially if you want the unit with thermals to be the ranger, who if they're playing their role properly, are going to be safely out of reach.

Then that's just the way it goes amigo. This a delicate topic so I'm not going to argue anymore with you on this.
