Back in the olden days of OG Impulse, the ammo box wasn't a drillable item that gave you random shit- it behaved as a normal ammo box that maxed out your ammo if you pressed E on it.
Old Nexus raids depending on the map, involved either smash and grabbing, or sneaking their way to the closest ammo box, stealing the ammo to fund shot cops for the next couple hours, and running off before the combine has a chance to properly respond, or even fucking notice.
As one of the old guard, i highly perfer the old way over the "new and improved" nexus raid which involves spending a small fortune on a drill which alerts the whole goddamn server to your presence, and requires you to have a stand off with the combine payday2 style for several minutes until it was done. The huge issue i have with that approach is... Well... The combine are by design a force you can't face head on in a dragged on stand off. Not to mention the goal was to run back to the sewers to pocket your loot BEFORE the combine has enough time to trigger a JW, and send OTA to bully you for their shit back or preferably, has no clue that they should EVEN trigger one. There's a reason most successful "modern" nexus raids were done during low hours.
Im fine with stealing items rather then simply maxing out ammo, in fact, i perfer it. And im even ok with keeping the stupid drill for no other reason then gatekeeping the raid.
But you should be able to open the ammo box with no noise, no alarms, no wasted time. (Im not even talking like a 10 second timer, im talking NO timers) Smash and grabs, and sneaky heists with rouge insiders should come back. Its the way rebels were supposed to approach there problems in lore anyways. The combine don't want their shit stolen, they can use guards.
