No third person combat

I understand the benefits of third person from a roleplay perspective: being able to see if you're making the right animations, and being able to just see yourself and the others around you is pretty nice.

But when it comes to impulse combat, the way the community adapted to using third person peaking to the point where you're practically required to have a quick perspective swap binded always annoyed the hell out of me. Half life is a FIRST PERSON shooter and fighting in a server based on it in third person always felt blasphemous (not to mention i don't like third person peaking unless its in a third person game specifically designed for it)

So there's a few ways to do it, the easiest being just making it so you can't third person with a weapon out.

One I've seen somewhere (ive forgotten where) is you can third person, but you can't third person PEAK. You don't see any props or players that isint within your models line of sight. This one's my favorite but i have no idea how hard it would be to pull off.

That's lowkey smart. My only caveat is to allow third-personing when weapon equipped is holstered. That's all. Otherwise i can't take all my cool Code Alpha OTA meetups.

realistically you can peak with only your eye showing irl, thirdperson is the same thing, and peeking is a literal mechanic so how would such thing even be enforced. plus its been in impulse-style server combat for years now i see no reason to remove it

Removing a mechanic that can be used by anyone and has always been part of the combat due to it 'feeling blasphemous' and 'not liking it' seems pretty one sided to what you want, at least give proper points that could argue for this

Ok, fine.

Combat orinted games generally stick to one perspective or another because each one comes with their own advantages, and lf you allow the use of both perspectives, players, being the optimisers that they are, will just use both, so they have the best of both worlds, and basically force everyone else to use both as well in order to stay competitive with them.

Just cause everyone uses both perspectives for combat doesn't mean that they ENJOY using it, infact, ive personally had plenty of conversations from people in other impulse servers who was always bugged by it.

As for why we should stick to first person instead of third person... Well, there's a reason everyone uses third person to peak, but almost never to actually SHOOT. Its jank, and the gamemode is clearly not designed around 3rd person combat.

And there's the simple fact im not the biggest fan of 3rd person combat (yes im directly saying it. Im allowed to have opinions) because it heavily favors the party who leaves their cover last. If you CP mains wonder how organized reb ambushes are almost always so successful, its because we third person peak, wait for you to stray too far from any potential cover to properly defend yourself, and then jump you. Lacking that kind of definite information that comes from being able to see everything without exposing yourself would help fights from being so one sided.
