so basically in HLA ALL units even ordinals who are captains show far more hints of humanity compared to HL2 soldiers
(my personal headcanon to this is that HLA Units are prototypes and the combine empire still didn't had proper knowledge on how to fully remove or someone's memories/personalities, this is also indicated by the Refresh and resolve voiceline which is basically a factory reset to make sure the unit's old memories don't reappear)
also taking that apparently this server seems to take place on the transition period as units such as the APF, Ordinals and Wallhammers & Grunt(who will be added in the future) its very likely that the combine still hasn't fully developed a way to remove someone's humanity
(also worth mentioning that in hl2 if you throw a grenade at a combine sniper there is a chance of them yelling "SHIT")
alright but... How much humanity each unit still has?
well as a huge half life nerd that i am, i checked the voicelines myself and watched a few videos talking about this and i'm here to give my opnion on how much humanity each unit still has
Grunts
grunts are pretty much just modified CCA Units, they show the most emotions of all units, panic when their oxygen/fuel tank is hit and even show regret on their death voicelines which indicates that they still have memories of their past to a extent(voiceline examples being: "Alyx...", "I'm Sor-" and "Help Us!")
Wallhammers
wallhammers show less emotions than grunts but they still have voicelines that show emotions to a extent, laughs at the player if the player falls for a fakeout(despite being a unused feature i am STILL taking it into consideration), there is the laughing voicelines and etc(also there is this voiceline that simply doesn't need any freaking explaination)
just like grunts wallhammers have panic voicelines and they have a bunch of taunting voicelines and they also seem to show some sort of regret as they also have the "Alyx..." death voiceline unsure if its used in game or not
APFs
Same thing as wallhammers, APFs however seem to be constantly high on adrenaline considering they sound and act more aggressive than other units
Ordinals
these are interesting to talk about, ordinals appear to not have any emotions but when you look under the surface you'll see that they show things such as impatience and have some sort of bravado, they also have laughing voicelines and making fun of the player for falling for a fakeout
now... lets talk about the 'transition period units'
Echo/Mace(OWS/EOW depending on whether or not grunts replace OWS)
ideally they should be just more professional versions of grunts, have slightly less of their original personality intact and have their memories fully suppressed
Ranger & Elite
these two are funny, but i think they should completely lack any sort of emotions or memories as if the Combine are experimenting on how much they can remove from a human without completely rendering them useless
while all OTA mains can +support or -support this suggestion this is entirely up to the high ranking units
personally tho i'd recommend a test period to check how the idea would work in practice
(plus letting OTA chit-chat with eachother when there's nothing else to do would make playing as a OTA unit less boring)
