What rank are you applying for?: DCO
Questions
Why are you applying for this position?: To further the development of the Civil Protection team, and to make it a force that’s capable of dispatching threats reasonably. I’ve witnessed general incompetence too many times, and wish to help in making some structured reform utilizing documentation in both combat and general policy. I also hope to help oversee the vitalization of VICE as a combat unit. A division that was dysfunctional and generally a victim of nepotism and neglect.
Why should we choose you over other applicants?: I’ve been active in the HL2rp community for about 6 years now, and have been playing the impulse framework since its initial release. I’ve been an OfC on both impulse and Landis, and have a great understanding of how to manage a team. On Deep Gaming, I helped with a few MPF projects, two to be precise, one involving scanner usage and the other involving demerits. This has not only given me knowledge on general tactical usage of Civil Protection assets but also has given me a great amount of understanding when it comes to punishing and rewarding supervisors. I also have an exceptional understanding of i17, having played on it repeatedly over the past couple of years. Edited: Forgot to mention my time in the MSC. As the largest Rebel group on impulse, I helped lead the 142nd, a unit comprised of 4 elite members who also served as squad leaders should other divisions not have higher-ranking individuals available.
What prior experience do you have in leadership positions? (Doesn’t have to specifically be HL2RP): OfC - Landis | OfC - impulse | Division Leader - MSC - impulse|
What kind of activity can we expect to see from you?: Considering how fresh this server is, you can expect me to be fairly active. HL2RP has been my bread and butter for years, so I have no intentions of abandoning the framework.
Do you have a working microphone?: Yes
Scenarios
You’re in nexus and an i4 comes up screaming in your face and insulting you. What would you do in that situation?:
Take a step back, and evaluate the exact behaviors of the unit. Naturally, I’d tell him to stop his rabble, but I’d wait a minute before taking action. Is this unit a rogue? Is he attempting to bait out a self-defense situation? I’d call in another unit, preferably a Union or Vice to be on standby in case this is a rogue trying to get justification on a kill (Don’t want a DCO BSL for no good reason, do we?). If the unit stopped his frustrated rant, I’d begin to question his intentions. What is he trying to accomplish? Does he simply not understand the ranking structure? Does he need additional training? Either way, I’d take him in for evaluation and hopefully resolve whatever conflict he has with me. Deserving the unit would do me no good if he’ll simply play again with some sour attitude towards Central Command.
If the unit did NOT stop his rant, I’d be forced to file a de-merit on his permanent profile, possibly resulting in a temporary combine ban. Then deservice him.
An i3 is being non-cohesive on the radio, saying things like “idk lol” or “dude I just killed that citizen lmao”. How would you respond?:
The unit isn’t acting with malice or ill intent, they’re simply making an error. I’d ask them to report to Nexus to evaluate 10 codes and general radio etiquette. Should they refuse to respond, they’d receive a demerit, pending deservicement should they be in a viable position to receive one. Having a unit flee or kill other units to dispense a punishment is foolish.
During a patrol an i4 arrests someone for the incorrect charges. They don't seem to know what they're doing very well. How would you correct them?:
Charge stacking is both frustrating for a unit, and for the arrested individual. It’s usually precipitated by a unit scrolling through the list of charges hovering over options and racking their brain. Making a relatively short process take ages. I’d not only educate the unit on proper criminal codes, but also produce documentation on how criminal codes are given and publish it to the Combine discord for general review. If one i4 makes an error, it’s likely that plenty more will unless something a bit broader than individual training is done.
You’re a DcO and an OfC loses his temper and deservices a unit for a minor infraction, which is against our rules. How would you punish the OfC?:
This moves well past general incompetence, considering this is an OfC who is required to have a very graduated understanding of both Combine policy and general server rules. I’d immediately tell him to report back to Nexus, should he not be there, for a demerit and possible removal of rank. He’d also be deserviced as per policy. I wouldn’t make an f3 for the pure reason that it affects the other player, and it is not my call to make a staff report on the individual OfC.
To elaborate on stripping of rank, I’d defer to his DvL that is present in the roster and discuss with them if this is a recurring issue, or if there are previous signs of poor conduct. If this is recurring, then I’ll also push for a temporary Combine ban.
Postscript:
I appreciate you taking the time to read this application, and I hope you find my previous experience and vision for the future helpful in forming a stronger Civil Protection force.
