Wiremod tools

Certain wiremod tools are blacklisted, and really, shouldn't be.

-Gates
Literally, what the fuck? Gates are a staple of Wiremod engineering, and I myself would rather work with these than with E2. What is there to abuse with gates?
-Lights/Lamps
If they are really that abusable, there's still ways to make them usable for the people who don't abuse them. It's not impossible to go into the .LUA files of wiremod and just, make it impossible to make a light with a super long range or really high brightess.
-Sound Emitter
Blacklisted? Entirely? Not even available to donators?

In my opinion these tools should not be blacklisted, as, even if abusable, they are important in builds.

EDIT:
-Hydraulics
Requires unfrozen props (good luck doing that without E2, unless freezers are unblacklisted too), and can't do allat.

EDIT (again):
-Thruster//FX Emmiters
Thrusters and FX Emmiters alike can produce some particle effects, this can be useful for builds where some particles could be used to bring more detail (Say, sparks, smoke, so on) although abusing those would be considered Abuse.

I think gates can be abused to people who know what they're doing, especially mixed with Expression 2, I can't say personally, but I know using gates can cause a lot of mischief and by doing a small google search found this code that could possibly be manipulated to kill people.

if(ButtonUser != owner()){
local Barrel = propSpawn("...explosive barrel...", ButtonUser:pos(),1e4,10)
Barrel:propBreak()
}
(code got owned by emojis)

It might be wrong but if that's the case with some codes and to someone who knows what they're doing, it could be dangerous.

As for the lights, I've seen them be abused to light up areas that normally aren't lit up and can be abused by both factions to give them an unfair advantage, such as blinding the other people so that they can easily be shot, whilst the other faction are safe behind the bright light.

Sound emitter can also be abused because it can be used to play everything in the server directory, which again could be IED beeps, JW sounds and other things that could ruin the aspect of RP.

I know that a lot of these seems annoying and do not think that you have any ill-intention of abusing these tools, however there are a lot of malicious people that would, and we want to prevent that from happening. Maybe we could implement a flag system that gives trusted users access to these tools, such as staff and event team members to create things dedicated for the server specifically.

I strongly agree with Silverman that the limitations on Wiremod seem out of place for an Impulse server.

Gmod, being a sandbox game, thrives on creativity and functionality, which are some of the most important aspects of any RP experience. Instead of restricting these features, I believe we should expand on them and collaborate with players to help them create their own features and mechanics, greatly enhancing the overall server experience.

The issue of abuse does arise, as Impulse servers have shown how certain tools can annoy others. However, one of the key reasons Impulse maintained its popularity, even with minimal updates, was the freedom to create.

I believe many Wiremod tools should be seriously considered for use. However, I also believe that the moderation team should have the ability to remove or ban players from using these tools if they violate the rules.

I don't personally agree, anything you can do with gates can be done with E2, the only difference is gates are easier to understand. (Also, that code would work if the props needed aren't blacklisted.)

That makes sense, but it's just as easy to neutralize these lights as it is to put them up, even if they aren't the mingy type of lights that bright up the entire area.

Sound emitter can also be abused because it can be used to play everything in the server directory, which again could be IED beeps, JW sounds and other things that could ruin the aspect of RP.
E2 can do the same.

In my opinion, Gates are only truly abusable when paired with E2 (Which, costs money to use), Lights (if dumbed down so they can't be minged with) are very easily blocked, And sound emitter does soemthing E2 can do, with less parameters. In a sense, it's less abusable than E2 is on that part, putting it behind Donator is what was done before, and it was never a major issue.

As Tryki here said, we could implement this so the people who want to use certain tools with Wiremod don't need to fill in an application, and those who do maliciously, simply loose the ability to.

Thanks for the suggestion, we'll be looking into adjustments that we can make to allow more WireMod tools while preventing abuse. Moved to the Planned section, please keep this updated with any other WireMod tools you believe having access to would be reasonable.

I think we should first allow hydraulics, sound emitters, and lights and see how the server handles it over time. I'm definitely willing to ease restrictions as long as we're not giving destructive powers into the hands of players

I've looked into this issue and WireMod Gates, Sound Emitters, Lights, Lamps, and Hydraulics are all meant to be allowed for donators+ already. There was actually a conflict with your Event Staff permissions and donator permissions, so the issue was happening for staff but not donators. This should be fixed now, thanks for reporting the issue. Are there any remaining WireMod tools we need to look into allowing?

Amazing, thanks

Thrusters and FX Emmitors would be useful for worldbuilding, and once again, if the issue of abusing comes up, we could restrict them to donator, as this limits the abusability of these tools. (Thrusters and FX Emmitors both have different particle effects to use)

Did some more checking, Adv Dupe 2 cannot spawn things like Hydraulics, and I believe cannot spawn Axis' either, which users can regularly access. This would then break dupes which would include things like Hydraulic doors
Hydraulics, Axis, and FX Emitters should be spawnable now through Advanced Duplicator for donators+.
